There are two approaches to describe the chemical bond quantum mechanically: the valence bond theory (VB theory) and the molecular orbital theory (MO theory).
Well-known representatives of the VB theory are Heitler, London, Paulingand Slater.
For the MO theory, dogs have Mulliken andHückel made a decisive contribution.
L. Pauling received the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1954 and the Nobel Peace Prize in 1962, and Mulliken in 1966 the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
